About

The Help Group’s North Hills Prep (NHP) educates and graduates students whose social and emotional needs thrive within a small, therapeutic learning community.

Emphasizing cognitive, emotional, and moral development, NHP offers a flexible yet rigorous academic program. We provide essential psychological services that prioritize growth and development, comprehensive transition planning, and a range of extracurricular activities, including sports, community field trips, and social events, to ensure a holistic and enriching educational experience.

Overview

The Help Group’s North Hills Prep (NHP), fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), is a therapeutic school serving special education students grades K-12 with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Using a humanistic, relationship-centered approach based on Dr. Bruce Perry’s evidence-based Neurosequential Model of Education, NHP teachers, therapists, administrators, and support staff form rich connections with students that provide a crucible for developing important self-awareness and interpersonal skills. Concurrently, academic development is made enjoyable with challenging curriculum, lively discussions, and an emphasis on Project-Based Learning (PBL).

NHP serves students with eligibilities of emotional disturbance, specific learning disability, other health impaired, and autism. NHP recognizes students’ unique capabilities and encourages them to explore their varied interests. Teachers, parents, and administrators work together to inspire students to be caring, informed, prepared, and well-balanced young adults with vital life-building skills such as communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking.

NHP’s “student learner outcomes” – Capable, Confident, Responsible – highlight development in the cognitive, emotional, and moral realms. This is supported by the upper school’s unique Transition Planning class which meets daily and includes current events, personal development strategies, psychological understanding, and social, political, and environmental awareness. As a transformative educational institution, NHP strives to prepare students for personal success and beyond.

Dear Parents and Students,

First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your child. We understand that each student is unique and requires individualized attention and support. Our dedicated team of educators and support staff is committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

At North Hills Prep, we believe in the potential of every student, and we are dedicated to providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the specific needs of special education students, focusing on their strengths while addressing their challenges. We strive to foster a love for learning and to empower our students to reach their full potential.

In addition to our academic program, we also offer a wide range of support services to ensure the holistic development of our students. Our team of specialists, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, reading and math specialists, and counselors, work collaboratively with our teachers to provide individualized support and intervention as needed. We also encourage open communication with parents, as we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for the success of our students.

Throughout the school year, we will organize various events and activities to foster a sense of community and belonging. These events will provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents, develop social skills, and build lasting friendships. We encourage your active participation and look forward to creating memorable experiences together.

Please know that your child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities. We have implemented comprehensive health and safety protocols to ensure a secure learning environment for all students and staff. Our dedicated team is committed to maintaining a clean and sanitized campus, following all guidelines and recommendations from health authorities.

I encourage you to reach out to our school office if you have any questions or concerns. Our staff is here to support you and your child every step of the way. Together, we can make this school year a successful and transformative experience for your child.

Once again, I extend a warm welcome to all our new and returning students. I am confident that, with your collaboration and our dedicated team, we will create an enriching and inclusive educational journey for your child.

Wishing you all a fantastic school year filled with growth, joy, and success!

Elin
